My Local Amish Community

I farm and so have a unique relationship with the Amish. We are part of each other’s community. They work on my farm, shoe my horses, harvest my buck wheat. They have built my barns and dug my fish ponds, tapped my maple trees, butchered my pigs, and smoked meat in my cold smoke house. Unfortunately, they do not permit photos of faces—no portraits, no group photos, no spontaneous shots or capturing timeless expressions. Although, I can photograph attributes; such as their hands, hats, their backs, carriages, horses, farm equipment, —I cannot photograph the face–forsaking incredible opportunities. Ethically I am bound to respect their wishes. This is an ongoing project with an intent to eventually publish.
